When you want to talk about something you ate in the past, you can use the phrase:

"Kumain ako ng ___"

This literally translates to "Ate me some ___" but in natural English it means "I ate ___". Use it to describe what you or someone else ate in the past.

Key Vocabulary:

"Kumain" - Ate

"Ako" - I

"Ng" - Of or Some

"Isda" - Fish

"Kanin" - Rice

"Pandesal" - Filipino Bread

"Mangga" - Mango

"Manok" - Chicken

"Sinigang" - Sour Soup

"Gulay" - Vegetable

Other Useful Variations:

Kumain ako ng pandesal kaninang umaga.

I ate pandesal this morning.

Kumain ako ng tapsiolog.

I ate tapsilog.

Kumain kami ng sinigang noong Linggo.

We ate sinigang on Sunday.

Kumain siya ng manok kagabi.

He/She ate chicken last night.

Nagmerienda ako ng prutas.

I had fruit for a snack.

Kumain kami ng gulay sa tanghalian.

We ate vegetables for lunch.

Kumain sila ng adobo noong isang araw.

They ate adobo the other day.

Kumain ako ng kanin at sinigang.

I ate rice and sinigang.

Nagluto siya ng isda para sa hapunan.

He/She cooked fish for dinner.

Nagdaing kami ng baboy kahapon.
